For his first concert as our new conductor Jack Apperley brings a programme of contemplative music featuring the exceptional saxophonist Naomi Sullivan and inspired by the iconic 1994 album “Officium” celebrating the collaboration between Jan Garbarek and The Hilliard Ensemble. A series of ‘nocturnes’ decorated by improvisations for saxophone combined with contemporary works which contrast the choir with a solo instrument or singer are complemented by Herbert Howells’ elegiac Requiem, which also explores the relationship between soloists and ensemble.
