Ever wanted to take a stroll through our solar system?  On the 25th of October a new solar system walk will be launched in Nonsuch Park, south London.  The launch event will take place with an official opening by local council representatives and members of the Ewell Astronomical Society.  The launch event will take place near the Nonsuch Park mansion.Nonsuch park derives its name from a long since demolished palace of Henry VIII, where it was claimed that there was “nonsuch palace like it”.  The 1.3km walk takes park visitors along a route with information boards of the main objects within our solar system set out at scaled distances.  The walk itself actually traverses across the middle of where Henry’s palace once stood.  Each board provides some basic information set out in a way to appeal to a broad audience, and includes a QR code that can be scanned that takes users to a webpage with more detailed information, including resources for use by local schools in the area that can use the walk as part of their science curriculumFollowing the official launch, the self-guided walk will be available at any time during normal park opening times. There is ample car parking at three separate car parks (although Saturday mornings can get busy with park runners), and Cheam mainline station is a short walk away.
