‘a post lockdown fitness boost for local residents’
We have now installed new outdoor gym equipment in Court Recreational Ground. There is now gym equipment in five of the borough’s green spaces.
The equipment has been funded by a levy placed on developers for infrastructure projects formally requested by the community via their local Councillors.
Councillor Arthur Abdulin (Town Ward), who was responsible for the successful bid for the Court Rec gym, said “’I’m absolutely delighted with the public reaction to this new equipment, and I’ve already seen Court Rec users incorporating it into their exercise regimes. It’s great to see a mix of families, older people, young people, all using it, and using it together. The new gym is a real post lockdown fitness boost for local residents”.
Councillor Alex Coley, Chair of the Community and Wellbeing Committee, added “The last 16 months have been a challenge for everyone, primarily due to the impacts of COVID-19, which has seen people of all ages spending more time indoors than ever before. As we hopefully move towards warmer (and drier) days, I am thrilled to see more members of our community keeping active - going for walks, running and taking bike rides in our fantastic green spaces.
“The outdoor gyms are a great way for everyone to be able to participate in exercise and reap the rewards of improved physical and mental health.”
The borough’s free to use outdoor gyms are easily accessible. The gyms are open to anyone and the equipment is designed to cater for all fitness levels. Instructions on how to safely use the equipment and which part of the body it will train are clearly shown, but if the user is in anyway unsure, they should seek advice before using it.
