Remembrance in the borough of Epsom & Ewell

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is proud to announce that Remembrance Day memorial services, parades and activities will take place to honour those who have died in the service of their country and give thanks to those past and present from the armed forces.

Garden of Remembrance, Wednesday 6 November

  • Located in Bourne Hall Park.
  • Open to the public from 1pm on 6 November until the end of November.
  • The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, the Chief Executive of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and schoolchildren will officially open the Garden.

Acts of Remembrance, Saturday 9 November

The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell and the Chair of the Royal British Legion will carry out many Acts of Remembrance around the borough. These will include:

  • Thanking poppy sellers at different sites including the Ashley Centre, Epsom and Homebase, Ewell, from 10.45am.
  • Laying wreaths at the War Memorial in Ashley Road, Epsom, the Horton Cemetery Memorial, the All Saints Church, West Ewell, and Bourne Hall, Ewell Village from 11.30am.
  • Joining a Remembrance Day procession starting at the Army Reserve Centre and ending at St Mary's Church in Ewell.

Remembrance Sunday, 10 November

At 10.33am, the Clergy, the Mayor, Councillors and the Royal British Legion will lead a formal procession from the Army Reserve Centre to St Mary's Church in Ewell. At 11am the Last Post will play followed by 2 minutes silence followed by wreath laying and a Remembrance Day service at the monument in the churchyard.

Armistice Day (11/11/11), Monday 11 November

At 10.40am, members of the public are invited to join a ceremony at the Clock Tower in Epsom Market Place. The Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, the Chief Executive of Epsom & Ewell Borough Council and elected Councillors will join the Royal British Legion, armed forces, veterans and local schools at the service which ends with the observation of the nationwide Two Minute Silence at 11am.

Other Remembrance activities

Large poppies have been kindly donated by the Royal British Legion and placed in Epsom High Street, Ewell High Street and Stoneleigh Broadway. These are alongside other poppies placed around the borough.
