The Arts Society Epsom hold monthly lectures at the Playhouse.  Visitors are welcome and the tickets are £7 each payable in the foyer on the day.  Please be seated in good time so that we can start on time.  If you enjoy the lecture you are welcome to join us.Jan van der Heyden’s reputation pales in comparison with the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci, but his career at the height of the Dutch Golden Age was no less extraordinary.  He was a brilliant painter and draughtsman, producing wonderful views of Amsterdam and other cities. But he was also an inventor, entrepreneur, administrator and marketing genius. A mechanical fire engine and street lighting were among his innovations.  We will take a close look at his career from his meticulous cityscapes, through the detailed drawings of his inventions to the surprising still-life paintings he produced at the end of his career.
