In the Surrey Historic Environment Record (HER) maintained by Surrey County Council, there are a number of areas of high archaeological potential within the borough. Within these areas there is good reason to expect some archaeological finds during any disturbance of the ground, such as during development. Applicants seeking planning permission within areas of high archaeological potential are required to undertake a prior assessment of the possible archaeological significance of the site and the implications for their proposals. They may be required to submit a desk based assessment to accompany any application submitted.
Where are the borough's areas of high archaeological potential?
Applicants can consult the HER to find out where the areas are located.
