Consultation about changes to taxi licensing

Monday, 23 October, 2017

We are taking part in a Surrey-wide consultation about changes to our taxi and private hire licensing policy. The proposed changes include the adoption of a new taxi and private hire convictions policy.

When deciding whether an applicant is suitable to hold a licence, we take into account criminal convictions, along with factors such as general character and behaviour, non-criminal behaviour and other police information.

The changes are being proposed by all districts and boroughs in Surrey to help provide a consistent approach to the training and assessment of drivers. This means someone who fails to get a licence in one part of Surrey, cannot successfully apply to another as all councils will apply the same approach.

We want your opinion of these changes in a consultation that runs from until Monday 4 December.
