Details of inspection stages:
Listed below are the various stages, where applicable, when Building Control need to be contacted to arrange an inspection of the work.
The Building Regulations specify certain stages where notice must be given .Failure to notify and allow inspection can result in work having to be exposed later to obtain a completion certificate .
Booking an inspection:
Inspections can be booked online or by telephone
book your inspection online;
or
telephone the Contact Centre on 01372 732000.
Commencement
Notice of commencement should be given two days before any work is undertaken.
Inspections
If an inspection request is received
online - before 4pm on the day before that required
or
by phone - before 10am on the day required
we will try to inspect that day.
Inspections are booked in as 'anytime on the day required', but are usually carried out between the hours of 11am and 4pm.
Specific times cannot be booked as the volume of inspections on any particular day is only known on the same morning. However we will make a note of any request and attempt to accomodate your construction programme.
Occasionally the number of inspections requested is greater than our resources. We will then require some inspections to be moved to another day but will contact you to agree a mutually convenient alternative.

Other inspections
Additional inspections may be required depending on the type of project in order to view items of work that will subsequently be covered up. These may include inspection of roofs, lintels and structural supports, insulation, fire stops and fire protection.
Structural works
If there are structural members to be inspected but calculations have not been submitted or checked the inspector can only agree that the structural members are in place they cannot agree that the size is correct.
Electrics
Applicants must advise Building control on their submission whether the electrical installation is being carried out by a person registered under a competent person scheme. If this is not the case a further application may be required and the electrical wiring will need to be inspected and should be left exposed.
