Under the Review of Polling Districts and Polling Places (Parliamentary Elections) Regulations 2006, all local authorities are required to carry out a review of polling districts and polling places on a regular four-yearly cycle.

A review (pdf - 11kb)  was undertaken in the Autumn of 2007 by the Council on the Polling Districts/Places within the Epsom & Ewell Borough Boundaries only. The other Polling Districts/Places which make up the rest of the Parliamentary Constituency were reviewed by the relevant Council concerned.

The Epsom & Ewell Parliamentary Constituency consists of the whole of the Epsom & Ewell Borough plus the Ashtead wards from Mole Valley District Council and Tattenhams, Preston* and Nork wards from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.

(* Preston ward is no longer part of the Epsom & Ewell Parliamentary Constituency with effect from the last Parliamentary Election held in May 2010)

The purpose of the review was to seek to ensure that:

All electors have reasonable access to voting facilities
Polling places are accessible to all electors including those with disabilities.

The information published for the review can be viewed below.

Schedule of Polling Districts and Places (pdf - 65kb)
Map of Polling Districts and Places (pdf - 1.89mb

Views were invited from electors within the district as well as from persons or bodies with expertise in relation to access to premises or facilities for persons with any form of disability.

Once the review was completed a report was presented to the Strategy and Resources committee on 13 November 2007. Following that committee a recommendation went to the Council meeting on 11 December 2007. Minutes of the Strategy and Resources meeting and Council meeting can be viewed here.

The outcome of the review resulted in no changes made to any of the existing Polling Districts or Polling Places in Epsom & Ewell. However, there was a recommendation to further investigate the feasibility of creating a new Polling District and Polling Place for voters in Ruxley ward. This has now been done and a report went to the Strategy and Resources Committee on 1 April 2008. The minutes of the meeting are also available.

Changes to polling stations can be made outside of a statutory review, if circumstances change to effect existing arrangements. Smaller reviews maybe undertaken at anytime if required. In the event of a change to an existing polling station, either permanent or temporary, voters will be notified of the change by the Returning Officer on the official poll card.
