The Meals on Wheels service delivers a choice of tasty and nutritious meals to vulnerable residents of the Borough who are unable to cater for themselves. This may be on a short or long term basis.
There is also a sandwich service available for those who need an extra snack at tea time.
How do I qualify for Meals on Wheels?
The Meals on Wheels service is a referred service. If you are a family member and feel you would like to refer someone for the service, you will need to contact the Meals on Wheels office.
Criteria for referral
The client must be:
- Living alone and unable to cook for themselves
- Housebound and unable to shop for a main meal
- At risk of malnutrition
- Not motivated to cook
- Unaware of time and/or need for regular meals, where there is clear evidence of confusion
- Living with an elderly carer who requires assistance.
What foods choices can I have?
You can have a meal and a pudding or meals only. In addition to this you can have a sandwich with cake/biscuit or fruit.
Deliveries
Our friendly, helpful staff and volunteers can deliver a hot and or frozen meal to your home between the hours of 11am and 2pm Mondays to Fridays.
Frozen meals can be provided for the weekend.
